Cake vs. Pie March Madness
Food, Internet | March 20, 2010
I couldn’t care less about NCAA March Madness (basketball = snooooozefest, unless it’s a team I really support, and those are few and far between), but a Cake vs. Pie tournament? That I can care about!
If tiramisu were in the running, it would win for sure, but I suppose it’s only a popular dessert in my own mind. Booo. Cheesecake falls short of tiramisu by just a little, but it needs to win because none of those other types of cake and pie even come close. I don’t understand some of the selections — birthday cake? What? The point of a birthday cake is that you can get whatever type of cake you want, is it not? And I’ll be honest, I had to google Bundt cake, Black Forest cake, and the difference between angel food and pound cake. Hmm, now that I think about it, ice cream cake > coconut cake, but whatevs. My bracket fails already just because I’m not that big a fan of apple pie.
Cheesecake is awesome. Better than red velvet cake, which other people on Jezebel.com actually seem to like, for some mysterious reason. I think it tastes…fake. That’s right, red velvet cake isn’t real food.
If cheesecake doesn’t win, something isn’t right with the world.

I’m totally with you on two counts: 1) tiramisu must win! Tiramisu is like coffee cake, and chocolate cake put together with a nice serving of liquer. Just describing it makes me want to go make tiramisu. And 2) Red velvet cake tastes fake. I don’t know but the not quite rich chocolate and not quite vanilla taste is…unsettling.
What I find a little ironic is that cheesecake appears on the pie column. =P
I agree: if tiramisu was in this competition it would without a doubt win.
In general I don’t really like cake and pie. Jikes.
Cheesecake is one of the best most delicious things in the world.
I haven’t had good tiramisu, really. I had it once, the other two tiramisu I had sucked.
Maybe by birthday cake they mean yellow cake?
And I LOVE red velvet cake. I’d put that as my winner in my cake bracket
Or maybe apple pie, cause I love that too. Mmmmm….
The only thing I enjoy about the NCAA are the upsets. Seems like there’s been a lot of them this year, with higher ranked seeds getting defeated by lower seeded teams and it’s throwing people and brackets into a tizzy!
My final four would be pineapple upside down, German chocolate, banana cream pie, and cheesecake, with pineapple upside down taking the final prize. I don’t love cheesecake THAT much
[...] posted her bracket in the March Madness Cake vs Pie Tournament, so of course I wanted to fill out a bracket [...]
Cheesecake is the greatest!
Also… how did grasshopper pie beat apple pie?
Oh, nevermind, I just googled what grasshopper pie was.
