I spent $210 on…
Style & Shopping | September 14, 2009
Ugg footwear. No, really. I decided that the classic tall boots (in chestnut) would probably prove instrumental in combatting the upcoming Chicago winter, and since I could get the women’s tasmina (in plum) on sale with the boots, I did.
Y’know, I don’t think Uggs are ugly (don’t even compare them to Crocs), so I’m not ashamed, but feel free to tell me how stupid you think I am.
Now all I need is a cute pair of rain boots, but after all the rain boots I’ve seen, I’m not sure “cute” and “rain boots” should even go in the same sentence.
P.S. This is my last night before I move… right after I finish typing this, I’m going to pack up my laptop, do some last-minute things, and then go out to ice cream to see my friends (the ones who aren’t already off to college) one last time before I move to Chicago tomorrow! How bittersweet.

Music | September 12, 2009
For the past few days or so, I’ve been packing for college (stressful! packing in general just about tops my list of least favorite things to do) and stocking up on new music (helps me de-stress), and I’d like to share my findings with you:
The Bird and the Bee – Again & Again (listen)
I’ve liked The Bird and the Bee for a while now, so this isn’t new, but it’s a must listen. The lyrics aren’t terribly profound, but it’s a mellow and catchy song at the same time. I love the “again and again” sequence with the climbs in pitch.
Again and again and again and again, do it again, do it again, again and again
Say my name, say my name, say my stupid name
It’s stupid how we always seem to do it again, oh
You’re so stupid and perfect and stupid and perfect
I hate you, I want you, I hate you, I hate you, oh
Tristan Prettyman – Love Love Love (listen)
I just found out about Tristan Prettyman upon recommendation by a friend yesterday, so I haven’t gotten a chance to listen to much of her music yet, but this song is the first on her Twentythree album, and I found it very pleasant-sounding.
And so there’s no need in even going
‘Cause I’m better off never knowing
I never cared much for the latest news that’s breaking
And if I have to, I’m pretty good at fakin’ the truth
‘Cause this life is a beautiful one…
Frankmusik – Confusion Girl (listen)
I found out about Frankmusik through a friend yesterday as well. He’s British and electropop.
Confusion Girl never gives or takes
Tries to cover up all of her mistakes
Wanting to be someone else
Anything but herself
Enjoy! If you don’t hear anything from me for a while, it’s because I either died packing or survived packing and am too busy having fun on campus!

Interview
General | September 10, 2009
Aisling posted an interview meme quite a while (over a month!) ago where you answer five questions and then ask five questions to whoever wants to continue the meme, and I’m finally getting around to answering the questions I requested from her!
I have to admit, I love memes. I’m not the type of blog reader who’ll skip over them because I think they’re a plague on even good blogs; in fact, I’ll usually at least skim over them. You know those surveys that used to make the rounds on Xanga and Myspace? Yeah, I loved those, even if a lot of them were boring and repetitious.
Anywho, moving on:
- If you owned your own restaurant, what would you call it? Thumbs up for asking me about food! This was a hard question, though, since I suck spectacularly at thinking up catchy or creative names and slogans. I came up with: Chiaroscuro (not very original, but I like what that word encompasses as a restaurant name — variations in light and shade and textures in food), Mama Meg’s (haha), and nutmegandcinnamon.
- Where’s the next place you’d like to visit? Y’know, I used to think I loved traveling, but after my recent journey to China, my mindset’s changed. There’s just no place like home, really, because it does take a lot of adjustment to live in a different country even for a short period of time, but I’m going to say Italy.
- If you could study anything, what would it be? Language and communication. The way people interact on a linguistic (as opposed to sociological, although that interests me too) level is fascinating to me, and I’ve been told I have a natural talent for learning languages. In college, though, I’ll probably be focusing on something along the lines of law, econ, and international studies (but language and communication will be a part of that) because I need to balance interests with future career prospects.
- What is your favorite possession that cost less than $15? My planner. It’s an organizational tool (and we all know how maniacal I am about organization) as well as the document of my life. I couldn’t live without it.
- Which color do you wear most often? Blue? I took a trip to my closet for this one, and it actually seems that I don’t gravitate toward one specific color. I for sure wear yellow the least often, though.
If you want to do this meme, ask me for questions!
